Jah Wobble

Jah Wobble, born John Wardle in 1958 in Stepney, East London, is a pioneering English bass guitarist, composer, and producer. He first rose to prominence in the late 1970s as the founding bassist for Public Image Ltd (PiL), the post-punk group formed by John Lydon after the Sex Pistols dissolved. Wobble’s inventive basslines became integral to the band's groundbreaking sound, particularly on their acclaimed albums "First Issue" and "Metal Box.

" Following his departure from PiL in 1980, Jah Wobble embarked on a prolific solo career characterized by exploration and fusion. Drawing inspiration from dub reggae, world music, electronica, jazz, and avant-garde traditions, he has collaborated with diverse artists such as Holger Czukay, Brian Eno, Sinead O’Connor, Bill Laswell, and members of Primal Scream and The Orb. His groups The Invaders of the Heart and Deep Space have been central vehicles for his creative pursuits, blending cross-cultural rhythms with deep, hypnotic bass.

Wobble’s discography spans over four decades and includes landmark albums like "Rising Above Bedlam," which received a Mercury Prize nomination, and "Take Me To God." Renowned for his live performances and improvisational energy, Wobble has continued to tour and record extensively, remaining at the vanguard of experimental and world music. In addition to his musical output, he published an acclaimed autobiography, "Memoirs of a Geezer," providing candid insight into his life, philosophy, and artistry.

Regarded as a singular voice on the bass and a restless innovator, Jah Wobble is celebrated for his open-minded approach and enduring influence on genres ranging from post-punk and dub to global fusion.
