Jake Peterson

Jake Peterson is a contemporary visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores the intersection of memory, place, and identity. Born in Minneapolis in 1988, Peterson’s early fascination with the natural world and urban landscapes deeply influences his work, which combines photography, painting, and found objects to evoke feelings of nostalgia and discovery. After earning a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2011, Peterson embarked on a series of residencies across the American Midwest, where he developed a signature technique layering archival imagery with hand-painted elements.

His work has been exhibited in galleries including the Walker Art Center, the San Francisco Art Institute, and several artist-run spaces throughout the Midwest, drawing recognition for its melancholic atmosphere and subtle social commentary. Peterson currently lives and works in Chicago, where he continues to push the boundaries of narrative and materiality in contemporary art.
