Duvall is an American indie rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 2001 by vocalist and guitarist Josh Caterer, best known as the frontman of the influential punk band Smoking Popes. Joined by fellow Popes alumni Eli Caterer and Rob Kellenberger, Duvall was born out of a desire to explore more melodic, spiritually resonant sounds, blending introspective lyrics with warm, anthemic guitars. Drawing influence from power pop, alternative rock, and spiritual themes, the group released its debut album "Volume & Density" in 2003, followed by the holiday-themed EP "O Holy Night" in 2004, earning acclaim for their earnest songwriting and lush arrangements.
Duvall carved a unique niche with their heartfelt approach to faith, relationships, and personal redemption, attracting a loyal following within the indie and Christian alternative scenes. Though their active years were brief, Duvall's catalog continues to be celebrated for its sincerity, musicianship, and thoughtful fusion of punk roots with melodic sensibility.
