Michael Lane is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of nature, memory, and urban landscapes. Born in 1984 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lane developed an early fascination with visual storytelling, which led him to pursue a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lane’s practice incorporates painting, photography, and digital media, often layering mixed materials to evoke a sense of time’s passage and the fragility of human connection to place.
His distinctive approach draws on influences ranging from American Realism to contemporary abstract expressionism, resulting in pieces that are both contemplative and dynamic. Lane has exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, with solo exhibitions in New York, Berlin, and Tokyo, and his work is held in several private and public collections. Through site-specific installations and participatory workshops, Lane actively engages with communities, fostering dialogue about environmental stewardship and shared histories.
He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, continuing to push the boundaries of traditional media while inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationships with the environments they inhabit.
