John Fick is a contemporary visual artist whose practice explores the interplay between form, materiality, and narrative. Born in 1986, Fick was raised in the Midwest and later studied studio art at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he developed a fascination with ceramics and mixed media installation. His work is characterized by a tactile sensitivity and an experimental approach to traditional craft processes, often combining clay, found objects, and industrial materials.
Through both his functional pieces and conceptual artworks, Fick invites audiences to reconsider the boundaries between art and utility, frequently drawing inspiration from everyday artifacts and personal history. Fick’s projects have been exhibited in galleries and public spaces nationally, and he has been awarded several residencies, including at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. He is currently based in Baltimore, Maryland, where he maintains an active studio practice and serves as an educator, contributing to programs that support community engagement with the visual arts.
