The Comet Is Coming

The Comet Is Coming formed in London in 2013, bringing together saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings (King Shabaka), keyboardist Dan Leavers (Danalogue), and drummer Max Hallett (Betamax). The trio developed a sound that melds cosmic jazz, psychedelic rock, electronic music, and Afrofuturism, drawing inspiration from Sun Ra, Fela Kuti, and Alice Coltrane, while forging a distinctive, forward-thinking style. After debuting with the EP *Prophecy* (2015), they earned critical acclaim for their first full-length album, *Channel the Spirits* (2016), which was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.

Subsequent releases, including *Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery* (2019) and *Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam* (2022), have cemented their reputation as vanguards of modern jazz’s evolution, celebrated for their explosive live shows and fearless improvisation.
