Nova Varnrable is a multidisciplinary artist whose work traverses the boundaries between visual art, sound design, and poetic narrative. Born in 1992 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nova has developed a distinctive artistic voice that weaves together themes of memory, identity, and the phenomenology of place. After studying studio art and experimental media at the Rhode Island School of Design, Nova immersed herself in collaborative projects across North America and Europe, exhibiting in both traditional galleries and unconventional public spaces.
Her installations—often integrating found materials, ephemeral sculpture, and immersive audio—invite viewers to reconsider the intersection of personal experience and collective myth. Nova’s practice is deeply informed by her interest in sensory perception, environmental consciousness, and the hidden histories of the landscapes she traverses. Expanding her creative reach, she has also published books of prose-poetry and participated in curated performance series, earning residencies and fellowships with institutions such as The Banff Centre and MASS MoCA.
Now based in Oakland, California, Nova Varnrable continues to expand her multidisciplinary practice, blurring lines between artist, storyteller, and archivist in a continual exploration of the unseen layers of the everyday world.
