ex.sses

ex.sses is a collaborative project at the intersection of digital media and sound, originating from the creative partnership of multi-disciplinary artists Lena Morris and Jia Wang. Rooted in both Berlin and Shanghai, ex.

sses explores themes of transformation, technology, and memory, channeling influences from glitch art, ambient soundscapes, and East Asian folklore. Their practice incorporates algorithmically generated visuals, modular synthesizers, and field recordings, resulting in immersive installations and live audiovisual performances. Since forming in 2019, ex.

sses has exhibited at venues including CTM Festival, UCCA Lab, and Somerset House Studios, and has been featured in publications such as The Wire and AQNB. Their work is guided by a fascination with hybrid identities and the liminal states between presence and absence, structure and chaos, which they continually reinterpret through evolving multimedia experiments.
