Micah Baxter

Micah Baxter is a contemporary visual artist known for his evocative use of color and texture to explore themes of memory, identity, and transformation. Born in 1987 in Kansas City, Missouri, Baxter developed an early interest in art, influenced by the region’s rich legacy of muralism and abstract painting. After receiving his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2009, he continued his studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his MFA in 2012.

Drawing inspiration from both urban and natural landscapes, Baxter’s work intertwines the personal and the collective, often incorporating found materials and experimental techniques. His paintings and mixed media installations have been exhibited in galleries across the United States, including solo shows at the Charlotte Street Foundation and participation in group exhibitions at venues such as the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.

In addition to his studio practice, Baxter is an active educator, sharing his passion for artistic inquiry with students at several regional colleges. His work continues to provoke conversation about the intersections between place, memory, and the ever-shifting boundaries of contemporary art.
