Kae Tempest is an acclaimed British poet, spoken word artist, playwright, novelist, and recording artist known for their genre-defying works and deeply resonant social commentary. Born in London in 1985, Tempest developed an early passion for words, performing at open mic nights as a teenager and rapidly gaining recognition for their powerful presence and lyrical dexterity. Tempest’s subsequent projects, including the albums "Let Them Eat Chaos" and "The Book of Traps and Lessons," as well as celebrated poetry collections like "Hold Your Own" and "Running Upon the Wires," demonstrate their remarkable ability to weave intricate narratives exploring themes of identity, empathy, and modern life’s complexities. Also celebrated for plays such as "Wasted" and "Hopelessly Devoted," Tempest’s multidisciplinary output has earned them a unique place in British culture. In 2020, they publicly came out as non-binary and adopted the name Kae, continuing to inspire audiences with their honesty, emotional intensity, and unwavering dedication to the transformative power of art.
