Fila Brazillia is an English electronic music duo formed in 1990 in Kingston upon Hull, comprised of Steve Cobby and David McSherry. Renowned for their eclectic and innovative fusion of genres, the pair have crafted soundscapes spanning downtempo, trip hop, funk, house, and jazz, often characterized by playful sampling and warm, expansive production. Their music journey began on Pork Recordings, where they helped define the label's distinctive mellow, soulful aesthetic through acclaimed albums like "Old Codes New Chaos," "Maim That Tune," and "Black Market Gardening.
" As they developed, Fila Brazillia moved to their own label, Twentythree Records, maintaining a prolific output throughout the nineties and early 2000s with releases such as "Luck Be a Weirdo Tonight" and "A Touch of Cloth," building a devoted following in the UK and abroad. Beyond their own releases, the duo is well-known for an impressive list of remixes for artists ranging from Radiohead to Busta Rhymes, Stereolab to Moloko, consistently infusing their own subtle groove and experimental edge. Their genre-blurring approach and sense of sonic adventure has earned them critical acclaim and enduring influence within the wider electronic and chillout music communities.
After a hiatus, Cobby and McSherry reunited in the 2020s, much to the delight of long-time fans, reaffirming Fila Brazillia’s enduring role as innovators and tastemakers in electronic music.
