Zebulon is a renowned nightclub and live music venue located in Los Angeles, California, known for its eclectic programming and integral role in the city’s thriving arts and music scene. Originally founded in 2003 in Brooklyn, New York, by Guillaume Blestel, Jef Sibel, and Joce Soubiran, Zebulon quickly became a cultural hub for experimental music, indie rock, and avant-garde performance, drawing an international crowd of artists, musicians, and creative thinkers. The venue was initially housed in a cozy Williamsburg location, which helped foster the area’s burgeoning music and nightlife culture throughout the early 2000s.
In 2012, after nearly a decade as a beloved neighborhood institution, the Brooklyn location closed its doors due to rising rents and changing neighborhood dynamics. After a five-year hiatus, Zebulon found new life on the West Coast. In 2017, the club’s founders opened a new, larger Zebulon in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Frogtown (Elysian Valley), just east of the LA River.
The new venue retained much of the original’s bohemian spirit, blending a lively bar and cafe with a performance space that accommodates a diverse array of musical genres, film screenings, literary events, and community gatherings. Zebulon’s Los Angeles incarnation quickly established itself as a crucial venue for both underground and established acts, earning acclaim for its commitment to forward-thinking curation and its welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. The club has been lauded by both local media and international critics for maintaining a sense of creative freedom and authenticity, often compared to the legendary venues of New York’s past.
Zebulon’s reputation for adventurous programming has helped it attract a roster of notable performers. Over the years, the club has hosted international artists such as Cate Le Bon, Thurston Moore, and Moses Sumney, as well as celebrated local acts like John Carroll Kirby, Shannon Lay, Julia Holter, and Tortoise. The venue is also known for welcoming experimental musicians such as William Basinski, Mary Lattimore, and Deerhoof, along with appearances by indie luminaries like Blonde Redhead and Ty Segall.
Zebulon serves as a stage for visiting artists from around the world, but it has also solidified its status as a home base for LA’s vibrant creative community, nurturing new talent and supporting unconventional artists across genres.
The capacity of Zebulon is 200.
