INFO

Wharf Chambers is a well-known nightclub and members’ co-operative located in the heart of Leeds, United Kingdom. With its origins dating back to 2011, the venue occupies a historic building at 23-25 Wharf Street in the city’s vibrant Kirkgate area, not far from the River Aire. The space was previously home to the Common Place, a volunteer-run social centre, before being reinvented as Wharf Chambers by a co-operative of local music lovers, activists, and creatives committed to fostering an inclusive, community-focused atmosphere.
Wharf Chambers’ not-for-profit, members-only model means that anyone visiting must join as a member or be signed in by one, helping to ensure a safe, respectful environment. The venue quickly carved out a reputation as a hub for alternative nightlife, radical politics, queer culture, and DIY music. Aside from club nights, it regularly hosts gigs, workshops, art events, and discussions, supporting grassroots initiatives and marginalised groups.
Its strong commitment to safer spaces policies and ethical drink choices has earned it wide respect across Leeds’ cultural landscape. Over the years, Wharf Chambers has retained its original location, though the interiors have evolved, with facilities improved to better serve club-goers, performers, and organisers. The low-ceilinged main room and adjoining bar area remain intimate, fostering a sense of connectedness between the audience and artists.
This unique environment has ensured the venue’s enduring appeal among creative communities and made it a regular fixture for underground scenes, queer collectives, and independent promoters from across the UK and beyond. Notable artists who have performed at Wharf Chambers include internationally-recognised acts such as Machine Girl, SOPHIE, and Moor Mother, as well as esteemed local and national talent like Loraine James, LoneLady, Giant Swan, PVA, and Mxmtoon. The club is also known for supporting regional outfits, new experimental musicians, and collectives such as Mutualism, Equaliser, and Love Muscle, further cementing its role as a cultural incubator in the North of England.
