INFO

TivoliVredenburg is a landmark music complex located in the heart of Utrecht, Netherlands. Its story traces back to the former Tivoli Oudegracht, a beloved music venue established in a converted 19th-century cinema on Utrecht’s historic canal. Tivoli, known for its vibrant atmosphere and eclectic bookings, rapidly gained a loyal following among music enthusiasts since its founding in 1949.
In 2014, a new era began when Tivoli merged with the nearby Vredenburg music centre, originally constructed in the late 1970s and designed by acclaimed architect Herman Hertzberger. The merger resulted in the construction of the state-of-the-art TivoliVredenburg building, an ambitious project designed by architect Herman Hertzberger in collaboration with Jo Coenen and Architectuurstudio HH. This architectural marvel boasts five acoustically optimized concert halls stacked atop one another, each purpose-built for different musical genres—from classical and jazz to pop, rock, and experimental music.
TivoliVredenburg is heralded not only for its striking modern architecture but also for its cultural significance, serving as a dynamic crossroads for diverse audiences and artists. It's renowned for fostering both established acts and emerging talent, and for its pivotal role in Utrecht's thriving music scene. The venue has hosted major international festivals like Le Guess Who?
and Utrecht’s own Gaudeamus Muziekweek, further cementing its global reputation as a cultural powerhouse. Over the years, TivoliVredenburg has continued to evolve, constantly adapting its programming and facilities to meet the ever-changing demands of music lovers, all while maintaining a deep connection to local musical traditions and the broader Dutch cultural landscape. Notable artists who have performed at TivoliVredenburg (and its predecessor venues) include international stars such as Prince, The Cure, Kraftwerk, Patti Smith, Kendrick Lamar, Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, and Arctic Monkeys.
Renowned Dutch acts like Caro Emerald, Chef’Special, De Staat, Kensington, Eefje de Visser, and Herman van Veen have also graced its stages. The venue routinely features performances by leading jazz musicians such as Chick Corea and Kamasi Washington, as well as classical ensembles including the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dutch Chamber Choir.
