INFO

The Bernard Shaw is a renowned nightclub and cultural hub situated at Cross Guns Bridge, Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, D09 XW44. Originally established in 2006 by the Bodytonic collective, the venue began its life on South Richmond Street, quickly developing a devoted following for its innovative approach to nightlife, creativity, and community engagement. The Bernard Shaw distinguished itself from the outset as more than just a bar or club, evolving into a vibrant meeting point for Dublin’s creative sectors with an ethos centered on inclusivity, artistic freedom, and urban culture.
In 2019, after over a decade as a fixture in Portobello, the original location closed due to redevelopment pressures, a move that spurred widespread public outcry and cemented its cultural status as a beloved icon of Dublin’s nightlife scene. Rising once again, The Bernard Shaw found a new home in Glasnevin, near Cross Guns Bridge, continuing its tradition of blending nightlife with art, music, street food, and forward-thinking events. The venue preserves much of the unique character and community spirit of its predecessor, while taking advantage of a larger, more flexible space.
This iteration includes expansive indoor and outdoor areas—most notably, the Backyard and Eatyard food market, an open-air food and entertainment complex inspired by European street food courts. The Bernard Shaw has maintained a firm reputation for supporting emerging artists, providing a launching pad for local DJs and musicians, as well as hosting internationally acclaimed performers across genres such as electronic, hip-hop, indie, and experimental music. Its graffiti-covered walls, art installations, and diverse programming continue to reflect its commitment to Dublin’s underground culture and grassroots movements, making it a vital touchstone for the city's creative community.
Notable artists who have graced The Bernard Shaw’s stage and DJ booth over the years include international acts such as Four Tet, Floating Points, Gilles Peterson, and The Black Madonna, as well as homegrown talents like Krystal Klear, David Kitt, Sim Simma, R.Kitt, Aoife O’Neill, and the ever-inventive Bodytonic residents. The venue continues to stay at the forefront of Dublin’s nightlife, celebrating both global and local artistry within its walls.
