VENUE

The Airliner

INFO

The Airliner is a renowned nightclub located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Built in 1923, the venue originally operated as a bar and grill before transforming over the decades into a key site for live music and nightlife in Los Angeles. The Airliner gained significant cultural relevance in the mid-2000s when it became the original home of the influential weekly club night, Low End Theory.
Hosted from 2006 to 2018, Low End Theory cemented The Airliner’s reputation as a breeding ground for experimental electronic, hip-hop, and beat-focused music, and became famous worldwide as a launchpad for both rising and established artists in the genre. The venue itself has a classic, slightly worn-in charm, with a multi-level layout featuring relaxed back patios and gritty, graffiti-adorned interiors reflecting Los Angeles’ underground culture. Over its lifespan, The Airliner has undergone various renovations and updates, but its location at 2419 North Broadway has remained a mainstay, anchoring its status as a linchpin in the local nightlife.
After a period of closure and uncertainty in the late 2010s and early 2020s, The Airliner reopened with renewed interest in its legacy, hosting a wider range of events while still honoring its roots in progressive music. Its influence on Los Angeles’ beat scene and its association with the "LA sound" have made it a significant pillar of both local and international music communities. Notable artists who have performed at The Airliner include Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Nosaj Thing, Daddy Kev, Tokimonsta, Daedelus, Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, Samiyam, Jonwayne, D-Styles, Kutmah, Teebs, and Shlohmo, as well as special guest appearances by artists such as Skrillex, James Blake, and Earl Sweatshirt.
Local talents and international names alike have graced its stages, securing The Airliner’s reputation as a vital hub for cutting-edge music and creative collaboration.
