Info

Sugarfactory was a well-known nightclub and cultural venue located in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Established in 2005, Sugarfactory quickly gained a reputation for being a vibrant and creative hotspot in the city’s dynamic nightlife scene. The venue was situated on Lijnbaansgracht, just steps away from the famous Leidseplein, making it a prime destination for both locals and tourists seeking an alternative to the mainstream club experience.

Sugarfactory set itself apart by combining club nights with live performances, experimental theatre, art exhibitions, and multidisciplinary events, fostering a unique blend of nightlife and artistic expression. The club was particularly known for its welcoming and open-minded atmosphere, attracting a diverse and eclectic crowd. Over the years, Sugarfactory became a launching pad for emerging local DJs and artists, while also hosting international acts across genres like electronic music, house, techno, hip-hop, and experimental sounds.

The club’s intimate setting and excellent sound system made it a favorite among music aficionados and performers alike. In early 2019, however, Sugarfactory faced financial difficulties and unfortunately had to close its doors. The closure marked the end of an era for Amsterdam’s nightlife, as many considered Sugarfactory to be not just a club but a vital cultural institution and creative breeding ground.

While there have been talks and attempts to revive the concept in different forms or locations, the original venue remains closed, but its legacy continues to influence the city’s music and arts scene. Notable artists who have performed at Sugarfactory include Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Seth Troxler, Detroit Swindle, Dekmantel Soundsystem, Shinedoe, Benny Rodrigues, Patrice Bäumel, Tom Trago, local stalwarts like Sandrien and Job Jobse, as well as international acts such as Amelie Lens and KiNK.
