Refuge Worldwide / Oona Bar is a vibrant and inclusive nightclub and community-driven music hub located in Berlin, Germany. It emerged from Refuge Worldwide, an online radio platform and movement initiated in 2015, originally dedicated to supporting grassroots and humanitarian projects through music. The first brick-and-mortar location opened in 2021 in the district of Neukölln, quickly becoming a focal point for Berlin's independent music scene as well as a physical extension of the radio station's ethos.
The venue features an intimate club area—Oona Bar—as well as a regular schedule of radio broadcasts, community gatherings, and workshops, fostering a welcoming environment for underrepresented voices, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC artists and collectives. Known for its progressive programming, Refuge Worldwide / Oona Bar has garnered a reputation for curating eclectic line-ups where underground dance music, electronic, and experimental sounds converge. The club has managed to retain its unique spirit even as Berlin's nightlife scene faces commercialization and rising costs; it remains committed to community access, fair artist compensation, and social activism, often running collaborative charity events and panel discussions addressing issues like anti-racism, migration, and mental health.
Since opening, the structure and location have remained largely unchanged, though the radio studio continues to evolve technologically and aesthetically to better support live performances and hybrid radio/club events. Notable artists who have performed at Refuge Worldwide / Oona Bar include international favorites such as Ben UFO, Objekt, Sassy J, Peach, and Shanti Celeste, as well as celebrated locals like Call Super, DJ Fart in the Club, re:ni, Paramida, Sally C, Zozo, CCL, and residents affiliated with collectives such as NO SHADE, Femme Bass Mafia, and Through My Speakers.
