Info

Paradise Garden was a celebrated UK nightclub and event series that became synonymous with the vibrant, eclectic spirit of Britain’s underground dance culture from the late 1990s through the early 2010s. Emerging initially from the thriving warehouse party scene in East London, Paradise Garden cultivated a reputation for inclusive, boundary-blurring nightlife experiences that fused music, art, and immersive performance. The venue first took shape as a regular club night in Hackney Wick, within a network of semi-legal, DIY spaces that fostered creative experimentation.

Bolstered by rising interest, Paradise Garden evolved over time, and by the mid-2000s had grown into a sprawling annual festival held in Victoria Park. This event attracted thousands and merged the energy of London’s clubland with the playful, communal ethos of outdoor festivals, blending live art, diverse food stalls, and interactive installations alongside its music programming. Culturally, Paradise Garden was pivotal in the cross-pollination of various subcultures, breaking down barriers between dance music scenes—house, techno, drum & bass, funk, and world music all featured heavily in its bookings.

It was widely respected for its inclusive, welcoming atmosphere, attracting an open-minded audience that mirrored London’s multicultural vibrancy. Over time, as the club night outgrew its original warehouse confines, it shifted between multiple sites, adapting to changing licensing laws and the evolution of London’s nightlife landscape. The Paradise Gardens Festival ultimately left a lasting mark as a precursor to more elaborate immersive nightlife and festival productions that followed in London and beyond.

Among the notable artists who graced Paradise Garden's stages and DJ booths were international stars like Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Coldcut, and Basement Jaxx, as well as revered local and underground acts such as Norman Jay, Secretsundaze DJs, Don Letts, The Cuban Brothers, and Horse Meat Disco. The event also gave space to live acts spanning everything from Balkan brass to global fusion, with performances by The Bays, The Destroyers, and Transglobal Underground, among others, helping to solidify its legendary status within the UK’s dance and festival culture.
