Noc Noc

INFO

Noc Noc is a well-known alternative nightclub in the United States, most notably located in Seattle, Washington, with the original venue having opened its doors in the late 1980s. Founded by Matt Oehrlein, Noc Noc quickly became a cornerstone of Seattle’s underground music and nightlife scene. The club set itself apart through its enduring commitment to alternative, gothic, industrial, and electronic genres, fostering an inclusive environment for subcultures that had few dedicated spaces in the Pacific Northwest.

Over the years, Noc Noc garnered a reputation as a haven for self-expression, hosting a mix of music events, themed nights, and community gatherings which contributed to its cultural significance in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The quirky, fantasy-themed décor—complete with custom metalwork, industrial lighting, and an enigmatic bar—has remained a signature of the venue, creating a unique ambiance that draws patrons seeking something distinctive from mainstream clubs. While Noc Noc has always been associated primarily with its original Seattle location, the brand extended for a time to San Francisco’s Mission District, broadening its reach to new audiences with a similar aesthetic and programming, although this location eventually closed.

The Seattle flagship has seen periodic renovations but has largely maintained its original structure and underground vibe. Despite changing trends in nightlife and the evolving urban landscape, Noc Noc persists as a rare survivor from a bygone era of alternative nightclubs, maintaining its legacy against the backdrop of a rapidly gentrifying city. Notable artists who have performed at Noc Noc include international acts like Assemblage 23, Covenant, VNV Nation, and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, alongside renowned local DJs and musicians such as DJ Savak, Rachel the Abstract, and Vox Sinistra.

Throughout its decades of operation, Noc Noc has served as a launchpad and home base for many artists in the industrial, synthpop, and goth scenes, cementing its place as an enduring cultural landmark in Seattle nightlife.
