Nestled in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin, Germany, Musikbrauerei is a unique nightclub and cultural venue housed in a historic 19th-century brewery complex. The site, originally built in the 1800s, operated for decades as the Schultheiss brewery before ceasing beer production and entering a period of inactivity. In the early 2010s, the building began a new chapter as a creative hub, gradually transforming into one of Berlin’s most unconventional nightlife destinations.
Renowned for its raw, industrial atmosphere—complete with vaulted brick cellars and labyrinthine passageways—Musikbrauerei retains much of its original architectural charm while offering a moody and immersive setting for music and art events. The venue has garnered a strong reputation for its commitment to underground culture, experimental art, and eclectic musical programming. Unlike many commercial clubs in Berlin, Musikbrauerei distinguishes itself by focusing on avant-garde concerts, immersive sound experiences, classical and contemporary performances, and multimedia installations.
It is especially known for events such as the "Kiezsalon" series, which pushes the boundaries of genre and fosters encounters between international and local talent. While some upgrades have modernized parts of the interior for acoustics and safety, the fundamental structure and identity of the venue have remained largely intact, preserving its historic and alternative flair. Over time, Musikbrauerei has evolved into a vital cultural space, bridging the gap between Berlin’s storied history and its cutting-edge creative communities.
Notable artists who have performed at Musikbrauerei include international acts like Caterina Barbieri, Stars of the Lid, Ben Frost, Pan Daijing, and Aisha Devi, as well as respected local artists and ensembles such as Ensemble Adapter, Brandt Brauer Frick, Berlin’s own Stargaze collective, and composer Nils Frahm.
