Market Hotel is a renowned DIY music venue and nightclub located at 1140 Myrtle Avenue in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. Established in 2008, the venue quickly became a cornerstone of the city’s independent music scene, known for its gritty, no-frills atmosphere and dedication to underground and emerging artists. Originally founded by Todd Patrick, also known as Todd P, Market Hotel operated on the second floor of a triangular corner building above the Myrtle-Broadway subway station.

Its ethos, rooted in inclusivity and a community-driven approach, helped foster a sense of belonging among musicians and fans alike, making it a cultural touchstone for Brooklyn’s DIY community. Over the years, Market Hotel has been celebrated for its progressive spirit, championing affordable access to live music and functioning as more than just a nightclub—it also served as an incubator for artistic innovation and social engagement. Market Hotel operated without a full liquor license and was shut down in 2010 by city authorities due to code violations and permit issues.

However, the venue maintained its legacy through ongoing advocacy and crowdfunding efforts, securing nonprofit status and working to comply with city regulations. After extensive renovations aimed at code compliance and improving patron safety, Market Hotel triumphantly reopened in 2015, featuring a newly constructed stage, improved sound system, and the installation of large windows overlooking the elevated subway tracks, which have since become an iconic aspect of the venue’s character. This reopening marked a new era for Market Hotel, reinforcing its place as a critical hub for artists across genres—ranging from punk and indie rock to hip hop, electronic, and experimental music.

While it has remained at its original location, the venue has continually evolved, responding dynamically to the needs of Brooklyn’s ever-changing music landscape. International acts such as Skepta, King Krule, Deerhunter, and Mac DeMarco have graced its stage, drawing sold-out crowds.
