Levenslang
Amsterdam is a relatively new addition to the city’s vibrant club scene, located at H.J.E.
Wenckebachweg 48, 1096AN, in
Amsterdam’s up-and-coming Oost district. The club takes its name from the Dutch word for “life sentence,” a tongue-in-cheek reference to the building’s previous life as part of the Bijlmerbajes,
Amsterdam’s infamous former prison complex. Since its opening in 2023, Levenslang has quickly cemented itself as a cornerstone for the city’s nightlife, renowned for its unique blend of industrial aesthetics and innovative programming.
The transformation from penitentiary space to nightclub has been handled with an emphasis on preserving the moody, raw character of the original structure—high ceilings, exposed concrete, and barred windows are key design features, creating an atmosphere that is both immersive and emblematic of the venue’s history. This distinct setting has contributed to Levenslang’s reputation as more than just a club; it is seen as a cultural hotspot, drawing a diverse crowd of electronic music enthusiasts, artists, and creatives. The venue prides itself on its inclusive philosophy and commitment to pushing the boundaries of club culture in the city.
While it maintains its original location, some refinements and renovations have taken place to enhance acoustics, safety, and the overall experience, reflecting a balance between heritage conservation and modern clubbing demands. Since its inception, Levenslang has gained a reputation for hosting eclectic lineups, from cutting-edge house and techno to genre-blurring experimental acts, earning recognition both locally and across the broader European nightlife circuit.
Amid its carefully curated events, Levenslang has welcomed an impressive roster of artists.
International headliners such as Ben Klock, Amelie Lens, and Denis Sulta have graced the decks, alongside acclaimed local talents like Job Jobse, Carista, and Sandrien. The venue has also provided a platform for emerging artists, supporting performances by rising stars such as KI/KI and Identified Patient, and regularly collaborates with collectives and labels like Dekmantel, Patron, and VBX, further embedding itself within the underground Dutch electronic scene.
