Index, located at 57 Middle Abbey Street in North City, Dublin 1, has established itself as one of Ireland’s premier nightclubs, particularly revered within electronic music circles. Originally opening its doors in the mid-2010s, Index quickly carved out a distinct reputation thanks to its dedication to underground house, techno, and a broad spectrum of electronic music genres. The venue occupies a storied location within Dublin’s nightlife tapestry—housed in a space that was previously known for hosting a variety of nightlife institutions, serving generations of clubbers.
From the outset, Index was committed to cultivating a community-centered approach to club culture, emphasizing top-tier sound systems, immersive lighting, and a welcoming atmosphere that celebrated inclusiveness and creativity. Over the years, Index experienced several changes in location, notably closing its original site in 2019 and subsequently relocating back to Middle Abbey Street, re-opening in 2022 with upgraded infrastructure and reimagined interior design to better serve the evolving needs of its audience. This relaunch not only underscored Index’s resilience but also highlighted its important role in bolstering Dublin’s nightlife, particularly amid challenging times for late-night culture in the city.
Index is recognized both locally and internationally for its uncompromising musical programming, and its dancefloor has become a rite of passage for both rising talent and established acts. Notable artists who have performed at Index include international heavyweights such as Jeff Mills, Dax J, Ben UFO, Paula Temple, Helena Hauff, and Charlotte de Witte, alongside celebrated local acts like Cailín, Sunil Sharpe, Mode_1, and Tommy Holohan, reflecting the club’s commitment to showcasing both global icons and Ireland’s best underground DJs and producers.
