Gut Level is a renowned grassroots nightclub and community space based in Sheffield, United Kingdom, known for its inclusive ethos and championing of underground music and marginalized communities. Established in 2019, Gut Level quickly became an essential part of Sheffield’s vibrant nightlife, focused on safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and people of all genders. The venue is operated as a not-for-profit members club, prioritizing collective ownership and decision-making, and is run on a volunteer basis by a diverse group of organizers.

In its early years, Gut Level gained a reputation for its fierce commitment to safer spaces policies, booking policies that elevated women, non-binary, queer, and POC artists, and energetic club nights that attracted dancers and music lovers from across the UK. Initially located in a distinctive industrial building at Snow Lane, Gut Level fostered a unique DIY spirit, often hosting workshops, panel discussions, and skill-sharing sessions alongside their nightlife programming. The club experienced a significant change in 2023 when it had to vacate its original premises due to redevelopment plans in the area, sparking a widespread outpouring of support from local and international communities who saw Gut Level as a vital alternative to mainstream nightlife.

The organizers responded by launching successful fundraising campaigns, and, after a brief period of pop-up events and temporary closures, managed to secure a new permanent home at 102 Sidney Street in Sheffield’s city center. The new space allowed Gut Level to expand its capacity and diversify its programming, while retaining its foundational values and strong emphasis on harm reduction and accessibility. Over the years, Gut Level has hosted a range of club nights, live concerts, and cultural events, building a reputation that extends beyond Sheffield thanks to collaborations with other UK collectives, record labels, and festival appearances.

Notable artists who have performed at Gut Level include international DJs such as Peach, Sherelle, and an appearance by Scotland’s Eclair Fifi, as well as highly regarded UK-based acts like India Jordan and Saoirse. The local scene has been well represented too, with regular performances from Sheffield’s own Skillis, Gracie T, and various Gut Level resident DJs who have gone on to play national and European gigs. This mix of local and international talent, alongside its progressive ethos, has cemented Gut Level’s place as one of the UK’s most culturally significant grassroots venues.
