Festsaal Kreuzberg, located at Am Flutgraben 2, 12435
Berlin, stands as one of the city’s most revered nightlife and cultural venues. Originally opened in 2004 in the heart of Kreuzberg, the venue quickly became known for its eclectic programming, encompassing everything from concerts and club nights to art exhibitions, community events, and political gatherings. The Festsaal cultivated a reputation not only as a club but as a melting pot of
Berlin’s diverse creative and social scenes, drawing a broad audience and serving as a platform for a wide spectrum of genres and causes.
A devastating fire in 2013 caused the original Festsaal to close down, leading to much lament in
Berlin’s arts and nightlife community. After a five-year hiatus and widespread support for its revival, Festsaal Kreuzberg triumphantly reopened in 2017 at a new location on Am Flutgraben, next to the Spree and close to other iconic venues like Arena and Club der Visionaere. The new space, a repurposed industrial building, retained the raw, welcoming atmosphere of the original while offering improved facilities and a modular design capable of hosting large-scale concerts and intimate gatherings alike.
Throughout its history, Festsaal has been celebrated as a vital node in
Berlin’s ever-evolving cultural infrastructure, praised for its inclusive ethos, diverse programming, and commitment to artistic and social progress, continuing to unite audiences with a love for music, art, and community spirit.
Notable artists who have performed at Festsaal Kreuzberg include international acts such as Bon Iver, Hot Chip, The xx, Die Antwoord, Blonde Redhead, and Death Grips, as well as local favorites like Seeed, Tocotronic, Modeselektor, and DJ Koze. The venue has also hosted performances by Sudan Archives, Future Islands, The Notwist, Caribou, Battles, and the German rap collective Zugezogen Maskulin, highlighting its central role in bringing both global and homegrown talent to
Berlin’s vibrant artistic scene.
