Info

Energy was a legendary nightclub in the United Kingdom that played a pivotal role in the country’s rave and electronic dance music scene during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Established in 1989, Energy was known for organizing some of the most influential warehouse parties and raves of its era, predominantly in and around London and South East England. It was not a fixed venue in the traditional sense but rather a mobile operation, staging events at various large, often secret locations such as abandoned warehouses, open fields, and aircraft hangars.

Energy quickly gained fame for its vibrant, ecstatic atmosphere and cutting-edge sound systems, attracting thousands of partygoers and cementing its place at the heart of rave culture. Over the years, Energy became a symbol of the UK's acid house revolution, mirroring the cultural shift among young people who embraced new forms of music and communal experience. Its parties became notorious for their scale, with crowds numbering in the tens of thousands, and for their hedonistic but peaceful spirit.

The rapid rise of Energy and similar rave outfits contributed to the government’s crackdown on unlicensed large-scale parties, leading to the enactment of stricter laws such as the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. Energy’s venues often had to change due to police intervention, and the organizers became adept at finding and preparing new locations, adding an element of secrecy and excitement that only heightened its appeal. By the early 1990s, the era of large illegal raves began to fade, but Energy’s influence persisted in legal club nights and the broader dance music landscape.

Energy hosted performances by a wide range of DJs and live acts, helping to launch and promote the careers of numerous artists. Some of the most notable acts associated with Energy include Carl Cox, Fabio & Grooverider, Frankie Knuckles, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Slipmatt, DJ Ratty, Sasha, The Prodigy, DJ Sy, and LTJ Bukem, alongside many other key figures from the UK and international rave and electronic music scenes.
