Electric Brixton, located on Town Hall Parade in the heart of Brixton,
London SW2 1RJ, is one of the capital’s most celebrated nightclubs and live music venues. Originally opened in 1913 as The Palladium Picture House, the site has undergone a series of transformations, reflecting changing entertainment tastes and the evolving character of Brixton itself. After decades as a cinema, the venue was converted in the early 1970s into a discotheque and became one of the area’s key nightlife destinations.
In the 1980s and 90s, it gained notoriety as The Fridge, a pioneering club that played a significant role in the city’s cutting-edge electronic and alternative music scenes. The Fridge helped launch the careers of countless British DJs and played host to legendary club nights, earning a reputation as a safe haven for
London’s LGBTQ+ community during a time when such spaces were rare and vitally important. In 2011, after a significant refurbishment and a reimagining of its interior as a state-of-the-art venue, it re-opened as Electric Brixton.
This modern incarnation preserved many of the original ornate features, including the proscenium arch and Art Deco details, while adding high-spec sound and lighting systems suited to world-class live performances and club events. Today, Electric Brixton stands as a landmark in
London’s vibrant music scene, celebrated for its atmospheric space, diverse programming, and contribution to Brixton’s cultural resurgence. It is renowned for attracting global superstars as well as nurturing grassroots talent, and its historical legacy as both a club and concert hall continues to draw loyal crowds from across the city and beyond.
Notable artists who have performed at Electric Brixton, reflecting its wide-ranging musical reach, include international acts like Wiz Khalifa, Paul van Dyk, Fatboy Slim, Boyz II Men, Motorhead, The National, and LCD Soundsystem, as well as UK and
London-based favourites such as Skepta, Jessie Ware, Tinie Tempah, Craig David, Ghetts, and Horse Meat Disco. The venue has also hosted DJ icons such as Annie Mac, Diplo, Sasha, and Andy C, underlining its status at the forefront of the global dance music community.
