Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) in Washington DC has long stood as a beacon for eclectic, immersive nightlife experiences. Founded in 1995 by Eric Hilton and Rob Garza of the internationally acclaimed electronic music duo Thievery Corporation, ESL quickly became a staple in DC's nightlife and cultural scene. Originally housed in a historic building on 18th Street NW, the venue was known for its intimate, eclectic ambiance, where a blend of vintage furniture, dim lighting, and multiple rooms set the stage for a diverse array of musical experiences.

Over the years, the venue gained a reputation for its unique programming that spanned genres, attracting a wide array of music lovers from across the city and beyond. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ESL closed its doors at its original location, marking the end of an era.

However, in a testament to its enduring legacy, the lounge was revived in 2021 at a new location on 9th Street NW. The new venue retained the signature ESL charm with an updated twist, offering an expansive rooftop and multiple indoor spaces that continue to host a diverse lineup of events. The reincarnation of ESL has allowed it to maintain its status as a pivotal venue in DC's nightlife, continually pushing the boundaries of musical exploration and community engagement.

Throughout its storied existence, Eighteenth Street Lounge has been graced by an impressive roster of talent. International artists such as Gilles Peterson, Bonobo, and Jazzanova have performed, while local acts like See-I and Fort Knox Five have also found a home on its stages.
