Coaxial is an experimental art and nightclub space located in Los Angeles, United States, known for its unique fusion of electronic music, live audiovisual performances, and interdisciplinary art. Established in 2015 by artist and curator Aimee Wessel and a collective of media artists, Coaxial quickly gained a reputation as a vital hub for the city’s underground and DIY creative communities. The venue originally opened its doors in Downtown Los Angeles, offering a flexible space that catered to a wide range of experimental performances, from live electronic music sets to multimedia art installations and performance art pieces.
Coaxial is notable for its strong commitment to supporting innovative and emerging artists, providing much-needed infrastructure for those working at the fringes of music and new media. Over the years, Coaxial has played a significant role in shaping the local avant-garde scene, fostering collaborations between local and international artists, and encouraging a spirit of experimentation and inclusivity. In addition to its role as a nightclub, Coaxial has functioned as a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to media, sound, and performance.
The venue has seen some changes in its structure and organization, particularly as the downtown arts district has evolved and as it adapted to shifting economic and cultural pressures—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Coaxial relied heavily on streaming and virtual programming to continue its mission. Nevertheless, it has remained steadfast in its vision, expanding both its physical infrastructure and technological capabilities to accommodate more ambitious and immersive experiences. Among the many artists who have performed or exhibited at Coaxial are international figures such as Vicki Bennett (People Like Us), AJA Ireland, and GX Jupitter-Larsen (The Haters), alongside prominent local and national talents including Geneva Skeen, Xina Xurner, E Smoove, Holodec, Grypt, and Aura T-09.
The capacity of Coaxial is 100.
