The Brooklyn Paramount is a renowned nightclub and entertainment venue located in Brooklyn, New York, United States. The venue originally opened in 1928 as a lavish movie palace and vaudeville theater, commissioned by the Paramount Pictures Corporation. Situated in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn, the Paramount was designed by architect Rapp & Rapp, featuring an opulent foyer, grand auditorium, and distinctive atmospheric ceilings reminiscent of the era’s grand cinemas.
Over the decades, the Brooklyn Paramount became a cultural landmark, hosting a variety of events ranging from film screenings to live performances. During the 1950s and 1960s, the Brooklyn Paramount gained legendary status as one of New York's prime destinations for jazz, rock and roll, and R&B acts. Its stage saw early performances from artists who would go on to shape popular music, attracting diverse crowds and contributing significantly to the borough's vibrant nightlife and music scene.
In 1960, the building underwent a major transformation when LIU (Long Island University) acquired the venue, converting the auditorium into a gymnasium and multi-purpose facility for student use. Throughout this period, much of the original architectural grandeur was concealed but not destroyed, preserving a sense of anticipation for future restoration. After decades as a university facility, the Paramount underwent a highly anticipated and meticulous renovation to revive its original aesthetic and spirit.
