Info

Bossa Nova Civic Club is a renowned nightclub and dance venue located in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, United States. Since opening its doors in December 2012, the club has garnered a reputation as one of the city’s most influential spaces for underground electronic music, especially techno, house, and related genres. The venue is celebrated for its intimate atmosphere, neon-lit interiors, and a commitment to showcasing both rising local talents and established international acts.

Bossa Nova Civic Club has played a pivotal role in shaping New York’s nightlife, acting as a hub for the DIY music scene and providing an inclusive space for a diverse community of dancers, DJs, artists, and music lovers. It is often credited with revitalizing the Brooklyn club scene in the 2010s, attracting media attention and cementing its status as a cultural institution within the city’s nightlife ecosystem. In January 2022, the venue suffered significant damage due to a fire in the building above, which forced a temporary closure.

However, its management and the local community rallied strongly behind the club, leading to a successful reopening several months later after repairs and upgrades to the space. Throughout its history, the Bossa Nova Civic Club has maintained its original location at 1271 Myrtle Avenue, with only incremental modifications to its structure, continually refining its sound system and decor to enhance the party experience while retaining its accessible, unpretentious vibe. Notable artists who have performed at Bossa Nova Civic Club include international names such as Honey Dijon, The Black Madonna (now known as The Blessed Madonna), Helena Hauff, Objekt, Pearson Sound, DJ Stingray, Umfang, and Volvox, as well as local favorites like Aurora Halal, Umfang, Analog Soul, AceMo, MoMa Ready, Akua, Beta Librae, and DJ Swisha.

The venue has also hosted numerous influential collectives and events, further solidifying its importance in the global and New York underground scene.
