Info

Avalon Hollywood, located at 1735 Vine Street in Los Angeles, California, is one of the city’s most storied nightclubs and live music venues. Originally opened in 1927 as The Hollywood Playhouse, the building was designed in the Spanish Baroque style and quickly became a prominent fixture in Hollywood, hosting stage plays, vaudeville, and later, radio broadcasts and television shows. Throughout the mid-20th century, the venue saw a variety of uses and names, including the El Capitan Theatre (not to be confused with Disney’s El Capitan), the Jerry Lewis Theatre, and the Hollywood Palace, the latter of which was a key ABC TV variety show location through the 1960s.

In 2003, the site underwent a major renovation and was reborn as Avalon, establishing itself at the forefront of the electronic dance music (EDM) scene not only in Los Angeles but also nationally. Its historic architecture features a grand ballroom, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and a multi-tiered layout that has preserved much of its classic glamour while adapting to the technical demands of modern nightlife and live performance. Avalon has cultivated a reputation for being one of LA’s premier destinations for nightlife, particularly in the realms of EDM, house, techno, and hip-hop, though it has also hosted pop and rock events.

Its cultural significance extends beyond the music, serving as a gathering place for Hollywood’s creative community and a launchpad for emerging talent since its earliest days. Over the decades, Avalon Hollywood has been noted for its inclusivity and for hosting a broad demographic of music lovers, industry professionals, and celebrities. The venue has not changed locations but has undergone several refurbishments to maintain modern standards and adapt to changing entertainment trends; these updates have ensured its continuous relevance in a competitive nightlife landscape.

Notable artists who have performed at Avalon Hollywood include international superstars such as Paul Oakenfold, Tiësto, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Sasha, and deadmau5, as well as local legends like DJ Vice and The Crystal Method. Other acts who have graced its stage include Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, Ferry Corsten, Kaskade, Nero, Zedd, Markus Schulz, and Afrojack, among many others, reflecting its status as a top-tier venue for both established icons and up-and-coming talent in electronic and dance music.
