Amstelhaven, located at Mauritskade 1, 1091 EW, Amsterdam, has long held a special place in the fabric of the city’s nightlife scene. Established in the early 2000s, this riverside nightclub occupies a prized spot on the banks of the Amstel, right next to the iconic Amstel Station and Oosterpark. Originally conceived as a modern extension of Amsterdam’s rich tradition of dance venues, Amstelhaven set itself apart by combining a laid-back, inclusive atmosphere with an eclectic programming slate that attracted both locals and visitors alike.
The venue is known for its distinctive glass-and-steel pavilion, which provides stunning waterfront views and an airy, open feeling rare among Amsterdam’s nightspots. Over the years, Amstelhaven has cultivated a reputation for championing LGBTQ+ inclusivity, hosting a vibrant mix of dance parties, live performances, and cultural gatherings, and becoming especially popular as a post-Pride celebration hub. Throughout its history, the club has remained at its original location, though it underwent significant renovations in the mid-2010s to improve acoustics, expand the dance floor, and update its outdoor terrace, all while retaining its signature blend of industrial design and cozy Dutch hospitality.
Amstelhaven is widely regarded as both a springboard for emerging local talent and a welcoming stage for established artists across dance, electronic, and pop genres, and it continues to draw a diverse, music-loving crowd from all corners of the city and beyond. Notable artists who have performed at Amstelhaven include internationally recognized DJs such as Benny Rodrigues, Miss Melera, and Tom Trago, as well as beloved local acts like DJ Cinco, Darryl Antunez, and the collective of Drag DJ Delores Drag Queen. The venue has also hosted surprise sets from visiting artists during Amsterdam Dance Event, with appearances by house and techno stalwarts like Sandrien and local favorites like Job Jobse and Cinnaman, solidifying its place in the city’s dynamic cultural landscape.
