Akbar is a well-known nightclub and bar situated in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1996 by business partners Scott Craig and Peter Alexander, Akbar quickly became an essential fixture in LA’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. Unlike the glitzier nightclubs of West Hollywood, Akbar developed a reputation for being both unpretentious and inclusive, attracting a diverse and creative crowd while offering a safe space for all identities.

The venue was originally conceptualized as a modern “bohemian” bar, reflecting the artistic and alternative spirit of Silver Lake, and has maintained its original location at 4356 Sunset Boulevard since opening. Over the years, Akbar has expanded its physical space to include a backroom dance floor and performance area, allowing it to host a wide range of events, from DJ dance nights and live music to comedy shows and drag performances. International performers and acts including Larry Tee and JD Samson (of Le Tigre fame) have also graced the club’s stage, bringing their eclectic sounds and broadening Akbar's reputation for cutting-edge music.
