Born on April 15, 1955, in San Jose, California, Castro grew up influenced by artists such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Ray Charles, which significantly shaped his distinctive blend of West Coast blues and Memphis soul.

Picking up the guitar at age ten, he soon developed a reputation in the Bay Area music scene, eventually forming his own band, Tommy Castro & The Dynatones, in the late 1980s. Castro’s career took off in the 1990s when he established the Tommy Castro Band, leading to extensive touring and sharing stages with legends like B.B. King and Buddy Guy.
