Sebastian Gabriel

Sebastian Gabriel is a contemporary visual artist known for his evocative exploration of memory, identity, and the intersection of light and form. Born in 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Gabriel developed an early fascination with both urban and natural landscapes, which would later inform his painterly approach. After studying Fine Arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes, he relocated to Barcelona, where the city's vibrant cultural scene inspired his transition from traditional painting to multimedia installations and experimental photography.

Central to Gabriel's practice is the interplay between abstraction and realism, often employing layered surfaces, muted palettes, and tactile materials to evoke the elusive nature of personal and collective histories. His works have been exhibited internationally, from solo shows in Berlin and Paris to group exhibitions across Latin America, garnering attention for their poetic sensibility and technical innovation. Gabriel has received several awards and residencies, including the Fundación Cisneros Artist Fellowship and a residency at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève.

Currently based in Barcelona, Sebastian Gabriel continues to interrogate themes of transience and belonging, inviting viewers to navigate the spaces between perception and recollection.
