Rising Damp is the performance and recording alias of Irish artist and musician Michelle Doyle. Based in Dublin, she is known for her distinctive blend of post-punk, industrial, and experimental electronic music, often combining heavy, dubbed-out basslines with sharp, driving percussion and raw, urgent vocals. Starting out within the city’s underground punk and DIY scenes, Doyle quickly established herself for her visceral live performances, where she manipulates hardware, effects, and her own samples to create immersive and politically charged soundscapes.
Doyle’s work as Rising Damp draws on her experiences as a member of activist and artist collectives, with her music reflecting themes of resistance, social commentary, and urban anxiety. Notably, she co-founded and performed with the feminist punk band Sissy and has collaborated with various artists across both visual and sonic mediums. Her releases—including EPs on Berlin’s District 66 and Dublin’s Moot Tapes—have gained recognition for their uncompromising sound and fiercely independent spirit.
In addition to her recorded output, Rising Damp has performed at festivals and venues throughout Ireland and internationally, including appearances at Live Collision International Festival, Gash Collective events, and commissioned performances for The Douglas Hyde Gallery and IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art). Combining post-industrial intensity with contemporary club sensibilities, Rising Damp continues to challenge and energize audiences with music that’s deeply physical, political, and rooted in the electricity of live performance.
