Origami Profile Image

Origami

Origami is a boundary-pushing contemporary artist collective formed in Tokyo in 2016, drawing inspiration from the precision and beauty of traditional Japanese paper folding. The group, comprised of multidisciplinary artists Emi Watanabe, Akiro Nakamura, and Hana Saito, explores intersections between geometry, materiality, and identity through installations, sculptures, and mixed media works. Internationally recognized for their large-scale public art projects and immersive gallery exhibitions, Origami reimagines ancient techniques with a modern sensibility, manipulating diverse materials from recycled paper to steel and light.

Their work reflects the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity, often inviting audience participation to transform static forms into evolving communal experiences. Over the past decade, Origami has exhibited in major museums across Asia, Europe, and North America, earning critical acclaim for their innovative approach to tradition, sustainable practice, and poetic visual storytelling.
