Moor Mother, born Camae Ayewa, is a Philadelphia-based musician, poet, and interdisciplinary artist known for her boundary-pushing approach to experimental music, noise, and free jazz. As a prolific solo artist and a key member of groups such as Irreversible Entanglements and Black Quantum Futurism, Moor Mother’s work is rooted in Black history, social justice, and Afrofuturism. Her music blends elements of spoken word, hip-hop, industrial, and jazz, addressing themes of trauma, memory, resistance, and liberation.
Moor Mother has released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Fetish Bones" (2016), "Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes" (2019), and "Jazz Codes" (2022), each praised for their uncompromising approach to sound and narrative. Beyond music, she is also an author, lecturer, and community organizer, frequently collaborating with visual artists, writers, and fellow musicians to create multimedia performances and workshops globally.
