Mary Lake is a contemporary visual artist from the Netherlands known for her evocative exploration of color and texture in painting. Born in 1985 in Rotterdam, she developed an early fascination with abstract expressionism that would go on to characterize much of her work. After studying fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, Lake began exhibiting her paintings across Europe, gaining recognition for her bold use of layered pigments and her ability to convey mood through energetic brushwork.
Influenced by the Dutch landscape and shifting urban environments, Lake’s work frequently draws on the interplay of natural light and architectural form, resulting in immersive compositions that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the Netherlands, as well as in Berlin and Paris, and she continues to expand her practice with installations and collaborative projects. Mary Lake currently lives and works in Amsterdam, where she is active in the local arts community and regularly mentors emerging artists.
