Karlie Marx

Karlie Marx is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work explores the intersection of social critique, personal identity, and collective memory. Born in 1988 in Detroit, Michigan, Karlie developed a keen interest in the visual arts at an early age, drawing inspiration from the political charge of her working-class upbringing. After earning her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she established a unique practice spanning painting, sculpture, and installation.

Fusing elements of Dada, street art, and conceptual theory, Karlie’s art often grapples with themes of power, labor, and resistance, inviting viewers to question established narratives and consider alternative futures. Her work has been exhibited widely, including solo and group shows in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and London, and she has been the recipient of several prestigious fellowships. Karlie continues to live and work in Chicago, where she also teaches and curates community-based art initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue and social change.
