Jan van Vliet

Jan van Vliet is a Dutch artist born in 1985 in Utrecht, Netherlands. Renowned for his evocative use of color and contemplative compositions, van Vliet’s career spans painting, installation, and printmaking. After studying fine arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, he gained early recognition for his innovative interpretations of urban landscapes, blending abstraction with subtle references to Dutch visual heritage.

Over the years, van Vliet’s practice has evolved to incorporate themes of memory, place, and the passage of time, frequently drawing inspiration from the interplay between natural light and architectural forms. His work has been exhibited widely across Europe and the United States, earning accolades at venues such as the Stedelijk Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp. In addition to his studio practice, van Vliet has facilitated workshops for emerging artists and participated in international residencies in Berlin and New York.

Today, van Vliet lives and works in Rotterdam, continuing to push the boundaries of contemporary Dutch art through his attentive exploration of material, space, and narrative.
