James Lotion

James Lotion is an interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges the worlds of painting, sculpture, and digital media. Born in 1987 in Des Moines, Iowa, Lotion developed a deep fascination with visual storytelling during his early years, drawing inspiration from the textures and tones of his rural surroundings. He later pursued his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, where his interest in the interaction between natural and artificial forms began to flourish.

Lotion’s compositions often merge fluid, organic shapes with precise geometric elements, creating a sense of tension and harmony that invites viewers to question the boundaries between man-made and natural environments. He has exhibited widely across the United States and Europe, with recent solo shows in New York, Berlin, and Los Angeles, and his projects have been featured in publications such as Artforum and Hyperallergic. In addition to his studio practice, Lotion frequently collaborates with sound artists and designers, producing immersive installations that blur the line between the visual and the auditory.
