Dirty Plates

Dirty Plates is an experimental electronic music duo hailing from Denmark, composed of longtime collaborators Emil Thomsen and Rikke Sørensen. Since forming in Aarhus in 2019, Dirty Plates have been recognized for their boundary-pushing approach to sound, merging elements of glitch, IDM, and ambient with playful field recordings and fragmented pop melodies. The pair draw inspiration from the atmospheric moodiness of Scandinavian landscapes, as well as club culture’s ever-evolving rhythms, resulting in music that feels both intimate and restless.

Their debut LP “Cracked Ceramics” was released in 2021 on the Copenhagen-based label Submerged Sounds, earning praise in the Danish avant-pop scene for its fearless experimentation and emotionally charged production. Frequent performers at Denmark’s underground venues and art festivals, Dirty Plates have built a reputation for immersive live shows that blur the lines between concert and installation, often incorporating visual art and improvisational elements. With a growing international following, Dirty Plates continue to challenge conventions, forging new directions in electronic music from their modest home studio in central Jutland.
