Aquiles Navarro is a Panamanian-Canadian trumpeter, composer, and sound explorer whose work bridges the realms of jazz, improvisation, and experimental music. Born in Toronto and raised between Canada and Panama City, Navarro’s multicultural upbringing deeply informs his approach to sound, rhythm, and collaboration. He studied at the New England Conservatory, where he immersed himself in both the jazz tradition and avant-garde practices, quickly establishing himself as a dynamic voice on the trumpet.
Navarro is widely recognized as a core member of the genre-defying ensemble Irreversible Entanglements, where his vibrant, expressive playing and inventive compositions help drive the group’s politically-charged, boundary-pushing sound. In addition to his work with Irreversible Entanglements, Navarro has released projects as a leader and collaborator, including his lauded duo recordings with drummer Tcheser Holmes, and has performed at major festivals and venues across North America, Europe, and Latin America. Constantly seeking new forms of creative expression, Navarro’s artistry is marked by a commitment to improvisational freedom, diasporic storytelling, and the pursuit of communal healing through music.
