Alexander Robotnick

Alexander Robotnick, born Maurizio Dami in Florence, Italy, is a pioneer of electronic music whose career began in the early 1980s. Initially trained as a composer and performer in experimental theater, Dami became a founding member of the multimedia group Avida, collaborating with artists in Italy’s avant-garde scene. Adopting the moniker Alexander Robotnick, he quickly rose to international prominence with his 1983 hit “Problèmes D’Amour,” a defining classic of Italo disco and electro.

Robotnick’s innovative sound is characterized by quirky synth melodies, mechanical beats, and a playful, futuristic aesthetic. Throughout the 1980s, he released several singles and albums that garnered cult status among underground electronic music enthusiasts. In the decades that followed, Robotnick’s music continued to evolve as he experimented with house, techno, and world music influences, notably collaborating with Indian and Algerian musicians.

Renowned for his energetic and eclectic DJ sets, Robotnick has performed at clubs and festivals across Europe, America, and Asia. His early works have been widely sampled and reissued, reinforcing his influence on generations of producers in electronic, dance, and indie music spheres. Alongside his performance career, Robotnick is an active composer for film, television, and theater.

He manages the label Hot Elephant Music, dedicated to promoting innovative electronic artists. Still active today, Alexander Robotnick bridges past and present with a unique style that blends retro charm with contemporary sensibilities, securing his place as a visionary in the electronic music landscape.
