Plan B was a renowned nightclub and music venue located in Brixton, South
London, United Kingdom. Established in 2009 by founders Andy Peyton and Steve Swindon, Plan B quickly became one of South
London's cultural pillars, celebrated for its eclectic bookings, impressive sound system, and immersive nightclub experience. The club was designed as a response to the lack of high-quality, late-night venues in Brixton at the time, and was set apart by its industrial-chic interior, creative lighting installations, and focus on innovative electronic music.
Over its years of operation, Plan B garnered a reputation as a ground-breaking clubbing destination credited with shaping Brixton's nightlife scene, offering a welcoming space for both mainstream and underground sounds, and supporting local talent as well as rising international acts. Throughout its history, Plan B underwent several upgrades, most notably a major refurbishment in 2011 that enhanced the club’s lighting and sound systems and created a more versatile, two-room layout. While Plan B always remained at its original 418 Brixton Road address, it regularly refreshed its programming and partnerships to stay at the creative forefront.
Despite its enduring popularity, Plan B eventually closed its doors in 2015, later transforming into a new venue known as Phonox. The spirit of Plan B, however, is still fondly remembered by clubbers and music aficionados alike for its contributions to the cultural fabric of
London’s nightlife, its inclusive ethos, and its support of emerging genres and artists.
Notable artists who have performed at Plan B include international acts such as Disclosure, The Gaslamp Killer, Erol Alkan, and Kerri Chandler, alongside prominent UK talents like Skream, Ben UFO, Oneman, Benga, and Joy Orbison.
The venue also supported hip hop and grime artists including JME, P Money, and Ms. Dynamite, as well as showcasing respected house and techno selectors like Maya Jane Coles, Artwork, Loefah, and Eats Everything. This legacy of diverse and forward-thinking programming firmly established Plan B as a seminal institution within
London's club scene.
