INFO

Hangar, once located on St. Andrews Lane in the heart of Dublin, was a cornerstone of the city’s nightlife and underground music scene during its short but impactful existence. The venue opened its doors in 2014, taking over the space formerly occupied by Andrew’s Lane Theatre, which itself had a rich cultural history spanning back to its days as a venue for both theatrical performances and club nights.
Hangar quickly earned a reputation for its dedication to electronic music, particularly house and techno, and became a gathering point for both seasoned club-goers and a new generation of ravers. It offered an industrial, raw atmosphere, thanks to its warehouse-style layout, exposed brickwork, and minimalistic aesthetic, which contributed to its underground ethos. Hangar also became a home for local club collectives, independent promoters, and a variety of subcultural events, from art installations to skateboarding and roller discos.
Its cultural significance grew as it provided a platform and safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and played a vital role in supporting emerging Irish talent, while attracting notable international DJs and producers. Despite its popularity, Hangar’s existence was threatened by the ongoing gentrification and redevelopment in central Dublin. In early 2018, it was announced that the site would be redeveloped into a hotel, leading to an outpouring of support and nostalgia from Dublin’s creative community.
The club closed its doors in March 2018, marking the end of an era for underground music in the city and highlighting the ongoing pressure facing independent cultural venues in Dublin. Hangar’s legacy, however, continues to resonate through the artists it supported and the collective energy it fostered among Dublin nightlife enthusiasts. Notable artists who performed at Hangar include international names such as Ben Klock, Octave One, Ejeca, Detroit Swindle, Alan Fitzpatrick, and Mall Grab, as well as prominent locals like Krystal Klear, Sunil Sharpe, DeFeKT, Sally C, and the collective District Magazine DJs.
The venue also regularly hosted nights by collectives such as Techno & Cans, Subject, and Sense, further cementing its status as a cornerstone of the Dublin music scene.
