Young Sun

Young Sun is a contemporary artist based in the United States, recognized for her evocative exploration of identity, memory, and cultural intersection. Born in California to first-generation Korean immigrants, Sun’s artistic journey is deeply informed by her bicultural heritage and the complexities of navigating liminality. She began her formal art education at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she graduated with a BFA in Painting and New Genres.

Her multifaceted practice spans painting, mixed media installations, and new media, seamlessly blending traditional techniques with experimental approaches. Young Sun’s work often investigates themes of displacement, familial narratives, and the negotiation between personal and collective history, rendered through vibrant color palettes and layered textures. Her exhibitions have been featured in prominent galleries and museums across the United States, including solo shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago.

In addition to her studio practice, Sun actively participates in community-based projects, fostering dialogue around immigration and belonging through public art initiatives and workshops. Her art has been featured in several publications, and she is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Joan Mitchell Foundation Emerging Artist Grant and a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. Young Sun continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art, using her work as a catalyst for empathy, understanding, and cross-cultural conversation.
